How AI Is Reshaping Customer Experience in the GCC
The most interesting AI work in the GCC isn't happening in labs — it's happening quietly in customer service, operations, and decision support.
There's a quieter AI story unfolding across the GCC — one that gets less attention than the flashy demos but is reshaping how real businesses operate. It's playing out inside customer service centres, operations rooms, and back offices.
What works today
The most reliable AI use cases, in our experience, share a few traits:
- They sit on top of your data, not the open internet.
- They have a human in the loop for high-stakes decisions.
- They are measured against a clear baseline.
Three patterns are working especially well across the region:
1. Assisted customer service
Tier-1 customer service is a near-perfect AI use case: high volume, repetitive, with bounded answers. Done well, AI assistants resolve 60–80% of incoming queries without human handoff — and the human team gets to spend their time on the hard problems.
2. Knowledge automation
Banks, government bodies, and large enterprises sit on mountains of unstructured policy and procedure documents. AI now makes that knowledge queryable in seconds, with citations. The productivity lift in regulated industries is dramatic.
3. Decision support, not decision making
AI is at its best as a first draft generator — not as the final word.
The teams using AI most effectively use it to surface options, summarise context, and accelerate analysis — while the human still owns the call.
What doesn't work yet
A few things to be careful of:
- Unbounded chatbots in front of customers without guardrails.
- Black-box decisioning in regulated workflows.
- Pilot purgatory — proofs of concept that never reach production.
How to start
If you're new to AI, start with one specific, measurable use case where the cost of being wrong is low and the data is already in your hands. From there, the path opens up.
